DRY NEEDLING

The practice of acupuncture is based on theories of traditional Chinese medicine that date back over 3,000 years. Current research into acupuncture has shown that the body’s response to needle stimulation involves the release of endorphins, hormones and neurotransmitters. Chemical mediators that alter the perception of pain and influence the body’s own internal regulating and healing response.

Our certified osteopaths use their expert knowledge of anatomy, physiology and precise acupuncture points to modulate pain and alleviate the symptoms of many musculoskeletal conditions.

WHAT ARE THE NEEDLES LIKE?

Acupuncture needles are very fine compared to needles used for injections or blood sampling. All needles are solid stainless steel, sterile and disposed of appropriately after use.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS TO TREATMENT?

Although people experience acupuncture needling differently, most patients will feel only minimal pain as the needles are inserted; some no pain at all. Once the needles are in place discomfort is not normally felt.

There are usually no side effects from the needles and the risk of bruising and skin irritation is minimal. Occasionally the original symptoms worsen for a few days or you may feel other general changes in appetite, sleep or emotional state. These symptoms normally settle and should not be cause for concern as they simply indicate that the body is adjusting.
